 | A more welcoming bus station for Guildford |
 |
(Letter to the Surrey Advertiser)
I am pleased that there is so much interest in the programme to refurbish Guildford’s Bus Station (Letters April 9th).
Let me give some more information on the project-
- The decoration and tidying up currently underway, first in Bays 7 to 15 then in Bays 1-6, should be completed in early May.
- The contract includes replacement of the windows, upgrade of the lighting and removal of weeds
- A deep clean will be done when other work is complete.
- Improvements to the drainage are included in the total £75,000 budget. We are working with the bus operators to try to ensure the minimum disruption to bus services whilst this work is done. Inevitably it takes some time to work out the best arrangements to keep the bus station running as near to normal as possible.
- Routine cleaning and graffiti removal is carried out all the time. Unfortunately, as Maurice Byham observed last week, litter and cigarette ends gather here very quickly.
The end result of the work being financed by Surrey County Council and Guildford Borough Council will be a cleaner, safer-feeling, more welcoming bus station.
