The work continues on cleaning up Guildford's bus station

(Letter to the Surrey Advertiser)

Mr Flatt (Letters, May 7) is quite right, the work to refurbish Guildford’s bus station is running a little behind schedule.  The new completion date for this part of the project, including the reglazing, decoration and deep clean, is now the end of this month instead of early in the month as I reported last time I wrote to you on this subject.

The main reasons for the delay were that work had to be stopped when a substance that might have been asbestos was discovered.  The stoppage lasted until a specialist firm could test the substance and report back.  Fortunately it was not asbestos.

Further delay was caused by the need for some extra work, the need for which emerged during the course of the refurbishment. This included, among other things, one area of ceiling which was in a much worse condition than expected.

Further work relating to the expansion joints and alleviation of flooding is currently being tendered and will be scheduled to cause as little disruption as possible to the running of the bus station.

Rest assured, the upgrade will result in significant improvement and will be completed as soon as practicable.

Councillor Jenny Wicks
Lead Councillor for Environment, Guildford Borough Council
