Guildford shines spotlight on town hall spending

Would you like to know how much your council pays for services such as street cleaning, leisure and housing?

Residents can now go online to find out how much Guildford Borough Council has spent on these and many other services during the last financial year. Any spending over £500 is now available to view online, as part of a move to make information more easily available to residents.

Cllr Andrew Hodges, Lead Councillor for Finance and Resources, says: "We offer a wide range of services and residents may not be aware exactly what is involved in providing these, so we've signed up to present our spending figures in a clear and open way. The coalition government recently said it would like all councils to supply this information online, and we are pleased to be the first council in Surrey, and the second in the country to do so. One of the core values of the Council is that our work will be publicly accountable and presented with openness and transparency.  This is an excellent way of demonstrating this."
