Following the sad death of Councillor Mike Nevins, both Guildford and Woking Conservative Associations selected Nigel Sutcliffe to stand for the County Council Division of Worplesdon, covering Normandy, Pirbright and Worplesdon. The by-election is to be held on the 15th July.
Nigel has lived in Guildford for 25 years and served as Worplesdon Borough Councillor for 8 years from 1995 to 2003. He was on the planning committee for 5 years and served as a Committee Chairman from 1997-2000. He has interests particularly in the environment and green transport, is a regular cyclist and is well known for campaigning on environmental issues. Nigel started the successful campaign against plans to build an extra 2,000 houses in Worplesdon.
Nigel is campaigning to protect the Green Belt around Worplesdon, Pirbright and Normandy and ensuring proper planning enforcement, as well as improving the state of roads around the Worplesdon ward and Guildford. He will also be fighting for efficient use of council funds, elimination of unnecessary spending, and low council tax.
